Windows XP Password Problems

Windows XP introduces a new behavior which makes it easier to access resources that require credentials other than the logged-on user's credentials.

This new behavior sometimes complicates access to those very resources. If you are using Windows XP and having trouble logging on to your Exchange Hosting Service account (or our demo account), you may be able to correct the problem by appropriately managing your stored passwords.

We are in the process of researching this behavior, and developing and testing specific instructions for users of this service. In order to provide some help immediately, we have located the following Microsoft support articles and taken three screen shots of an exemplary configuration. Please review the following articles to fully understand the screen shots below.

Q281660 - Behavior of Stored User Names and Passwords

Q306992 - HOW TO: Manage Stored User Names and Passwords on a Computer in a Domain in Windows XP

Q306541 - HOW TO: Manage Stored User Names and Passwords on a Computer That Is Not in a Domain in Windows XP

Q281567 - Stored User Names and Passwords Does Not Prompt for Credentials When You Attempt to Connect to a Resource
