Outlook Web Access
Outlook Web Access (OWA) normally
requires very little tech support. But certain
circumstances can lead to difficulties.
For full functionality, you need to use
Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher.
Here are some of the most common support
issues: Connecting to someone
else's mailbox Blank Inbox
/ Proxy Server Issue Using Earlier Browser
Versions Internet

Connecting to someone
else's mailbox
If you want to connect to someone else's
mailbox, and you have their password here's what to do.
Note the pattern of the URL for Outlook
Web
Access: "http://exchange.junctionbox.net:6080/exchange/your-user-name"
and simply substitute the other person's username in the
URL.
You will be prompted for that person's
username and password of course.
Blank Inbox / Proxy Server
Issue
The advanced features of Exchange 2000's
Outlook Web Access require full support for the WebDAV
protocol. Certain Internet Service Providers (ISPs) run
proxy servers and security settings which interfere with
this protocol. Specifically, we have noted the following
issue with a user of the DirecPC satellite service.
Microsoft has documented the issue in Q267570 in the Knowledge Base.
The symptom you will see if you have
this problem is that your inbox will appear to be empty
(when it isn't).
The solution to this issue is to connect
to OWA using the SSL protocol. In order to do that, log
on to this URL:
https://exchange.junctionbox.net/exchange
The difference between the above URL and
the normal URL on the Outlook Web Access page is the "s"
after the "http". Add that site to your favorites and
connect to it instead of using the link on the Outlook
Web Access page.
We do not recommend connecting with SSL
unless it is needed to solve this specific problem. SSL
slows down performance noticeably because (forgive the
oversimplification) it requires the server to encrypt
everything before sending it, and requires your
workstation to decrypt everything after receiving
it.
Using Earlier Browser
Versions
For best results, use the latest version
of Microsoft Internet Explorer with all security patches
and updates applied. See Using Browsers Earlier Than... in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base for more details.
Internet Explorer security
settings
OWA does not display properly if
Internet Explorer's security settings are set to high.
Set the Internet Explorer security settings to Medium
when using Outlook Web Access. This according to
Microsoft, see Q249510. |
