Please read these Guidelines, and
the Services
Agreement, carefully before opening or continuing an account with
Junctionbox. By using Junctionbox Online Services, you agree to comply with
these Acceptable Use Guidelines. Junctionbox may terminate your Junctionbox
account if you fail to comply with these guidelines. If you do not agree,
please contact Junctionbox immediately.
Specific questions and/or suggestions concerning these Guidelines
should be directed to: guidelines@junctionbox.net
1.0 Required E-mail Account
Junctionbox communicates with customers primarily via e-mail. You agree
that sending a message to your contact e-mail address is our agreed upon
means of providing notification. You must maintain an up-to-date, valid
e-mail address on file with Junctionbox and check it routinely. This
address is used to communicate vital information about your services,
billing, service outages, and enhancements or changes to your existing
services. This information is time-sensitive in nature. It is required
that you read any e-mail sent to your account to avoid any potential
interruptions in your service. It is your responsibility for having an
up-to-date, valid contact e-mail address on file with Junctionbox. For
those Junctionbox services containing a mailbox, we will assume this is
your contact e-mail address unless you tell us otherwise.
2.0 Use of Individual/Business Dial-Up Accounts
Individual/Business dial-up accounts are for the interactive use of an
individual connecting directly from a computer/modem to Junctionbox. You
may stay connected as long as you are using your computer.
The unmetered Individual/Business dial-up accounts are just that,
unmetered. They are not unlimited nor dedicated connection accounts.
Individual/Business dial-up accounts may not run their own servers or
programs which provide network services from these accounts. Examples of
prohibited servers and programs include, but are not limited to, mail,
web, and irc servers, and multi-user interactive forums. Users are also
prohibited from running programs which keep their connection open without
reasonable interactivity. Examples include, but are not limited to, using
PING, keep-alive or e-mail programs to keep the connection open while you
are not actually at your computer. Our current inactivity timer is set to
20 minutes. There is a 10-hour maximum connection duration for non-LAN
dial-up connections.
Each Junctionbox Individual/Business dial-up account includes an access
account with one or more mailboxes. Each access account allows for a
single modem connection at any particular time. It is the user's
responsibility to ensure this restriction is enforced. Multiple
connections with a single access account may result in additional monthly
charges.
3.0 Usenet News Use
When posting to newsgroups, you should comply with the newsgroup's
written charter/FAQ. If a newsgroup does not have a charter or FAQ, its
title may be considered sufficient to determine the general topic of the
newsgroup. You should determine the rules of a newsgroup before posting to
it.
Established Usenet conventions ("Netiquette") prohibit advertising in
most newsgroups. Junctionbox users may post advertisements only in those
newsgroups which specifically permit them in the charter or FAQ. Some
newsgroups may permit "classified ads" for single transactions between
private individuals, but not commercial advertisements. Junctionbox users
are responsible for determining whether or not a newsgroup permits
advertisements before posting.
Netiquette also prohibits certain types of posts in most Usenet
newsgroups. Types of prohibited posts include chain letters, pyramid
schemes, encoded binary files, job offers or listings, and personal ads.
Junctionbox users may post these types of message only in newsgroups which
specifically permit them in the charter or FAQ (if any). Junctionbox users
are responsible for determining whether or not a newsgroup permits a type
of message before posting.
Junctionbox users may not alter the headers of posts to newsgroups to
conceal their e-mail address or to prevent users from responding to posts.
Only the poster of a Usenet article, or Junctionbox, has the right to
cancel the article. Junctionbox users may not use Junctionbox resources to
cancel articles which they did not post. The sole exception to this rule
is for moderators of formally moderated newsgroups; the moderator of a
newsgroup may cancel any articles in a newsgroup he or she is moderating.
Junctionbox users may not attempt to "flood" or disrupt Usenet
newsgroups. Disruption is defined as posting a large number of messages to
a newsgroup which contain no substantive content, to the extent that
normal discussion in the group is significantly hindered. Examples of
disruptive activities include, but are not limited to, posting multiple
messages with no text in the body, or posting many follow ups to messages
with no new text.
4.0 E-mail Policy
Junctionbox accounts may not send e-mail to any user who does not wish
to receive it, either at Junctionbox or elsewhere. Junctionbox recognizes
that e-mail is an informal medium; however, users must refrain from
sending further e-mail to a user after receiving a request to stop.
Unsolicited advertising mailings, whether commercial or informational, are
strictly prohibited. Junctionbox accounts may send advertising material
only to addresses which have specifically requested it or "opted-in" to a
list. Junctionbox will not forward mail of accounts terminated for bulk
mailing or unsolicited advertising. Junctionbox has a zero-tolerance policy
with respect to unsolicited e-mail originating from accounts under our
control. If mailings from your account generate Junctionbox abuse
complaints, you are liable for Junctionbox administrative charges up to
$100 per complaint.
Chain letters are unsolicited by definition and may not be propagated
using Junctionbox services.
Junctionbox users may not send, propagate, or reply to mail bombs. Mail
bombing is defined as either e-mailing copies of a single message to many
users, or sending large or multiple files or messages to a single user
with malicious intent.
Junctionbox users may not alter the headers of e-mail messages to
conceal their e-mail address or to prevent users from responding to
messages.
Failure to abide by Netiquette sometimes results in massive numbers of
e-mail responses. If an Junctionbox user receives so much e-mail that
Junctionbox resources are affected, Junctionbox staff may shut down the
user's mailbox.
For those Junctionbox accounts running their own
mail servers, we require that you disable relaying. This ensures that your
mail server will not become a relay source of unsolicited e-mail. If
unsolicited e-mail passes through your mail server, your account may be
deactivated and incur Junctionbox administration charges. There is no
charge for the first instance. There is a $100 charge for the second
instance and $200 charge for each subsequent instance.
5.0 Web Hosting Policy
Junctionbox web hosting accounts may
not host any sort of
adult entertainment websites. We must apologize for this however the amount of
bandwidth that these types of sites takes up is rather
large and we would prefer not to host this type of material. Junctionbox
will also not host
6.0 Access Account Bandwidth Policy
Junctionbox accounts may not resell Internet access bandwidth.
As an ISP, our bottom line is determined by the amount of bandwidth our
customers utilize. We have an official policy of Unlimited Bandwidth. You
are not charged for the bandwidth you consume nor do we limit or have
quotas on that bandwidth. However some services are designed for
high-volume bandwidth while others support lower-volumes of traffic. If
you are using an extreme amount of bandwidth on an inappropriate service,
we retain the right to ask you to stop that service and request that you
upgrade your account if necessary.
7.0 Security Policy
Junctionbox assumes that you have enough technical knowledge to use your
account without causing abuses. If your actions indicate that you are
trying to crack, attack, block or intrude on the networks of Junctionbox
users or those of other providers, we will deactivate your service and
hold you liable for your actions. If activity from your assigned
Junctionbox IP address generates Junctionbox abuse complaints, you are
liable for Junctionbox administrative charges up to $100 per complaint.
As an Junctionbox user, if you become victim of attacks, we will help
you in identifying the source. If you are hacked or have evidence of
malicious behavior by another Junctionbox user we will be happy to contact
the person for you and do whatever is necessary to prevent such activity.
If the source is outside of Junctionbox, we can suggest how you should
contact the appropriate source. Please send all notice and evidence of
such abuse to abuse@junctionbox.net.
As an Junctionbox user, if you are a source of attacks, this policy
applies even to relatively harmless operations such as port-scanning, and
failed login attempts to other computers where you do not have official
access. If your account is found responsible for such activity, you will
receive a warning. If you receive 3 warnings your account will be
deactivated, and any charges that are applicable will apply. (If you wish
to play with security please use one of your own machines, or use other
options such as the happyhacker.org web site.)
If your account is found responsible for actively committing malicious
behavior (cracking machines, Denial of Service (DoS) attacks such as Ping
of Death, SYN Flood, LAND Attack, IP Spoofing, etc) your account will be
deactivated immediately.
If your account is used as a relay point for unsolicited or spoofed
e-mail your account will also be deactivated.
8.0 Non-commercial Use
Some Junctionbox accounts, are designated for non-commercial
use. The access portion of these accounts must terminate at a
non-commercial address. Web sites or other services on IP addresses of these
accounts must be of a non-commercial nature. Selling of products,
solicitations for business and/or exchange of funds or bartering are
considered commercial uses. Domain names associated with these accounts must
not be registered under companynames. In questionable cases, Junctionbox's
sole discretion will prevail.
9.0 Privacy
Junctionbox is committed to respecting your privacy. Once you
choose to provide personally identifiable information, it will only be
used in the context of your customer relationship with Junctionbox.
Junctionbox uses your information to better understand customer needs
and continuously improve the level of service provided. Specifically, your
information is used to help complete a transaction, to communicate back to
you, to update you on service and benefits. Credit card numbers are used
only for payment processing and are not utilized for any other purposes.
Junctionbox will not give, sell, rent, or lease your personally
identifiable information to others unless required by law or your prior
permission is obtained.
