One look at Junctionbox's data center and you'll know immediately that you're dealing with professionals. We haven't cut corners on anything: we only invest in top-of-the-line, industrial-grade gear. Our hardware and network infrastructure is built with scalability and reliability in mind. It can't be done any other way if you want to keep pace with the rapid evolution of Internet technology.
You enter the equipment room. The first thing you notice is the neatness. Neatness does count. Everything is mounted and all cables are bundled. No cables on the floor. This place looks professional.
Additionally, all of our cables run underground, unaffected by weather. Since they are bound in redundant cable bundles, one below the other, only the most determined backhoe driver can completely sever our data lines.
Some lines (called PRI) carrying 24 phone lines each. These PRI lines connect to one of our dial-in Servers. Each dial-in Server contains up to 96 modems (48 ISDN and 48 V.92). The equipment monitors each modem and automatically disconnects that modem if there are any failures.
The dial-in Servers take the incoming data off the phone lines and place it on an Ethernet 100Mbps switched Ethernet sub-network. Our routers then determine whether the data is for our internal servers or for the Internet backbone and switches it appropriately.
Data going to or from the Internet backbone passes through the redundant core routers. It's reliable - it's immune to electrical interference and weather.
Data going to or from our servers (junctionbox.net) routes onto a separate redundant Ethernet subnetwork. This switched Ethernet subnetwork runs at 100Mbps for excellent performance. Our main production servers are running Windows Server 2003. These machines are the standard of performance and reliability for commercial Internet suppliers. Supporting these servers are "disk farms" containing multiple 18GB Fast-SCSI drives on multiple SCSI buses. The disk farms receive a daily back-up to a jukebox tape handlers.
This last rack supports our
office infrastructure. It contains our phone and voice-mail
system, and the local LAN hub. There is a UPS (uninterruptable power
supply) room holding batteries to supply power for the entire data
center until the backup generator kicks in.
